Cheap turf is a risky commodity. You may end up with turf worse than the turf you took up.

Turf can vary greatly and as in most cases the old adage "you get what you pay for" couldn't be more true. Cheap turf is cheap for a reason and we would always advise that if at all possible you should ask to see the turf before you buy.

If you want a lawn to be proud of then it's worth paying a little bit extra and avoid the temptation of cheap turf.

When you buy turf you should try to make sure that you are getting it from a well established reputable company. Cheap turf will be a false economy; some turf companies cut turf from meadows. This will be agricultural grasses that grow uneven, patchy and coarse and are usually full of weeds. Meadow turf is very poor quality, cheap turf and you may end up replacing your old lawn with something even worse!
