Alan Titchmarch and his ITV Love Your Garden make-over team headed to Bolton to surprise Caroline Hall and transform her unloved garden into a spectacular animal friendly haven with the help of Harrowden Turf.

Caroline is a former RSPCA officer who tragically suffered a near fatal spinal stroke six years ago.

Originally paralysed from the neck down Caroline learned to walk again with the aid of sticks but remains reliant on her mobility scooter.

Restoring a neglected garden

Unfortunately Caroline’s once beloved garden had become an inaccessible wasteland. Not only was it unsuitable for her mobility scooter, but it had become overgrown and unmanageable.

At 131 feet long, this was one of the thinnest gardens the Love Your Garden Team had ever designed. Alan and Co decided to divide the space into 4 rooms. one for the dogs, one for entertaining, one as an allotment and one inspired by Scotland, Caroline’s home country.

The Love Your Garden Team had a good old tidy up. They levelled the garden and used self binding gravel to create scooter friendly paths to every part of it.

Then they added  some raised beds so that Carolines impared mobility could not stop her from growing fruit and veg. A pretty pagoda and a small lawn created a relaxing atmosphere for Caroline.

Caroline previously enjoyed her career working with animals and still enjoys the company of her pets. Alan and the team made sure that the entire garden was pet friendly.

Turf from Southport completed the look

Harrowden Turf were pleased to be asked to play their part. Caroline’s turf  was grown on our farm in Southport. Our lorry delivered it to Bolton in time for the garden build.
