A living green roof is more than just a decorative novelty. It provides insulation, helps prevent flooding, filters pollutants from the air, absorbs noise and provides food and shelter for a vast variety of wildlife.

Enviromat’s green roof kit for pitched roofs includes the main ingredients needed to transform your gently sloping roof. There’s a root barrier to protect your waterproofing from any potential root damage. And a living carpet of gorgeous hardy sedum plants. From the moment you unroll Enviromat Sedum Matting your roof will be carpeted with vegetation.

Enviromat is seeded with 7 different types of sedum and nurtured outdoors in our UK nursery for 9 - 12 months. Or until the plants are big and strong enough for despatch. Plant species are chosen for their disease resistance, drought tolerance, long flowering period and unenviable good looks.

The matting itself is specially made using recycled products. It’s strong, easy to handle and designed to keep the growing medium (substrate) within the mat. So no loss of substrate due to handling, transportation or even heavy rain after installation.

Sedums are drought tolerant and will only need an occasional watering during long spells of dry weather. Other than that, the only maintenance needed is an application of a specialist sedum feed every spring. Unless of course your living roof is steeply pitched or exposed to drying winds. For roofs with a pitch of 10 degrees or more we stongly recommend installing an irrigation system and applying feed in early spring and early summer.

Before you begin

Please ensure that your roof is suitable for a sedum green roof. It must be able to carry a weight of 120Kg per square metre. (This figure includes ‘live loading’ so a coating of snow or a person walking on the roof will not compromise the building structure).

Waterproofing needs to be in good condition. A green roof build up will not fix any issues and it will be more difficult to make repairs once the layers are in place.

If your flat roof has no upstand, you will need to create an edging to protect the green roof buildup. Please get in touch with the Turfonline Team if you need advice on how to do this.
