Floral Focus

A truly colourful blend of wildflower species that will be irresistible to butterflies, bees, moths and hoverflies. Floral Focus is a pollinator paradise and when in full bloom, it is a truly joyous mix of vibrant colours. As an added bonus, most of the plant species are perennial. If they love your garden they’ll repeat the performance year after year after year.

We’ve developed a more advanced growing system for this Meadowmat® variety to allow us to leave all of the grasses out of the seed mix. Our traditional Meadowmat® varieties rely on the roots of grass plants to form the matting system. For Floral Focus we’ve introduced a biodegradable coir backing fabric so that your wildflower area is easy for us to transport and for you to install. In truth, it was developed for green roofing applications. However, we think you’ll love it as a garden feature too.

  • Stunning flower varieties in shades of yellow, white, blue, pink and purple
  • Long flowering period to support pollinators from spring through to autumn
  • Suppresses annual weed seeds already in your soil and stops weeds from germinating
  • Very easy to install and care for. Simply place each slab of wildflower turf onto prepared soil (or green roof substrate!) and keep well-watered until the roots are established.
  • Cut back once a year – no other maintenance required
  • 100% Wildflower seed mix*
  • Suitable for green roofing AND ground applications

Great for insects and even better for gardeners!

Key Points

  • A vibrant mix of perennial, annual and bi-annual plants for sustainability and lower maintenance
  • Depending on soil type and local weather, expect to see flowers between March and September
  • Floral Focus is mown before despatch to minimise damage to plants in transit. It will not be in flower when it is delivered
  • For summer flowers, install Floral Focus before the end of March so that plants have plenty of time to establish.
  • It takes two slabs of Floral Focus wildflower turf to cover one square metre.
  • Average weight is 25Kg per square metre – this may vary slightly according to moisture levels,
  • For roofing applications, install onto AT LEAST 150mm of green roof substrate.
  • Your Floral Focus will adapt to the conditions in your garden and to the weather which means it will bring a different display every single year.
  • For ground applications we recommend laying onto a 150mm depth of nutrient-poor soil like our Low Fertility Soil

*IMPORTANT TO KNOW

Floral Focus is grown outdoors on a wildlife-friendly plant nursery. We actively encourage birds, insects and other creatures to share the benefits of the plants as they grow. Pesticides and weed killers are not usually used in production.

That means that whilst there is no grass sown in our Floral Focus, from time to time, seeds will be dropped by birds. We weed out any that we see but occasionally one or two will be missed. Floral Focus may not be entirely grass free. The good news is that the growing medium we use makes it very easy to pluck out any unwanted plants that you see.

Coverage

Each slab of Floral Focus measures 500mm (19.6″) wide by 1000mm (39.2″) long so it takes two slabs to cover 1m².

Please note this product is sold per square metre.

How to Install and Care for Floral Focus

When your Floral Focus arrives, it will have at least 90% plant coverage. All you need to do is to lay it on top of prepared soil (or green roof substrate) and water it in. The growing medium needs to be kept damp until plants are fully established.

Floral Focus has a very short shelf life. It MUST be unrolled as soon as your delivery arrives, especially in hot weather.

Annual maintenance couldn’t be easier. Allow the plants to grow, flower and set seed over the Spring and Summer period. Then, when plants look dry, stalky and sad, use a sharp blade to cut them down to about 10cm high. Give the spent vegetation a good shake to let seeds fall back into the sward and then pop it on the compost heap. Your wildflower turf will regenerate through the winter months and start growing again in Spring. Any unwanted plants can be pulled or dug out.

For roof applications only, apply a suitable slow release feed in early spring. The Turfonline team recommends our Sedum Fertiliser. Floral Focus in the garden is very self-sufficient and shouldn’t need feeding at all.

For more detailed information on installing and maintaining Floral Focus please visit the downloads tab or check out some of our blogs in the help centre.

Perishable living products should be installed on the day of delivery. In the unlikely event that your product does not arrive in good condition please get in touch immediately with photos showing the issue.

The actual percentage of each species contained may vary due to environmental factors. Turfonline makes every effort to ensure wildflower products are free from weeds and pests, however due to the natural way in which these products are grown we cannot guarantee they are 100% pest  free on delivery. It is unlikely that you will see every species that is listed. The variation of species present has been developed to suit a wide variety of soils and environmental conditions. This will result in a product that will adapt to individual settings which may mean some species are more successful than others. Contains annual and perennial species.  If installed after March many species may not flower during the first year.

On our bulky items such as Turf, Wildflower Turf, Sedum and Soils you can select your preferred delivery date from a calendar during the checkout process.
Some of our Wildflower products do contain a Biodegradable reinforcement net for stability.
Can you take my pallet away? Unfortunately not - please can you reuse or recycle.
  • For palletised goods our standard service will be delivered between 8am - 8pm. We are requested not to contact the delivery depot for ETAs until the afternoon. Therefore if your delivery is not with you by around 2-3pm please get in touch and we can find out what time it should be with you.
  • If you selected a pre 11am delivery, this should be with you from 8am - 11am. If in the unlikely event that your order is not with you within this time frame, please contact us.
  • If you selected a pre 2pm delivery, this should be with you from 8am - 2pm. If in the unlikely event that your order is not with you within this time frame, please contact us.
  • Our Saturday deliveries are normally delivered between the hours of 8am - 2pm. During busy times this may be extended but should be with you before 4pm.
  • If your item is arriving via a parcel carrier you should receive a text message from the carrier with an ETA.
  • With all of the services mentioned above, we are unable to provide an ETA until the day of delivery.

For all palletised goods, during the checkout process you can select your required delivery date along with any timed upgrades. For parcels, these are despatched on the next business day.

Bulky items like Turf, Topsoil and Wildflower Turf can be delivered Tuesday to Friday. We can also offer deliveries on Saturdays for an additional charge. Please select your preferred delivery date from the available dates during the checkout process. This is dependent on the delivery postcode.
What delivery services do you offer? - Standard all day delivery is included in the price for most areas of the UK. There are surcharges for some areas and options to upgrade to timed services for an additional cost.
We offer kerbside delivery, so pallets are usually left on the road to the front of your property. We can occasionally deliver to your driveway if it is flat, level and a solid surface, and if the kerb is dropped enough for a pallet truck to roll over it whilst fully loaded.
How tall does Meadowmat grow? - This depends on the variety. A flowering height of 30-90cm is common. All of our wildflower products are trimmed prior to despatch to protect the plants from damage in transit. The height at despatch is approximately 10cm. For more information about specific varieties visit the product page on our website.
Our Wildflower Turf and Sedum products are perfect for attracting pollinators.

Your Delivery

Turf Online aims to give its customers the best possible experience by delivering the best quality products for sale in the UK. Therefore, all our perishable products are harvested fresh to order the day before delivery!

Delivery charges and services vary by different types of turf and delivery location. Charges are confirmed at checkout before payment. If your order includes grass turf, topsoil, Wildflower Turf or Sedum mats, you can choose your delivery day. You should arrange for live products to be delivered on the day you will lay them. Reducing the amount of time the product is stored means significantly less potential nuisance when it comes to installation; certain issues will not have had a chance to rise. All other products are delivered within 5 working days (or usually sooner!).

How Is Your Product Delivered?

We recommend that you only make arrangements for tradespeople to carry out work on your behalf after your turf or other products have been delivered.

PLEASE NOTE: Turf, Wildflower Turf, Sedum Mats and bulk Bag products are delivered on a pallet and can only be delivered to the kerbside.

Most of our products for sale in the UK will be delivered by being transported by a pallet courier that primarily uses 18-tonne rigid trucks that are built for reaching the majority of UK addresses. However, it is possible that your delivery could be made on a larger vehicle. If access or other restrictions prevent vehicles above a certain size reaching your address, or there are other offloading or parking restrictions which could affect the delivery, let us know in the delivery notes section of checkout so that special delivery arrangements can be made. Please make sure you double check the delivery postcode and address carefully as after your order has been shipped, it is likely we will not be able to make any amendments to your order or address.

Delivery is unloaded using a manual pallet trolley which is lowered to the road by the tail lift on the truck. Unfortunately, we do not offer Hiab (truck-mounted crane) deliveries. To offload the pallet, the surface must be flat and level. Since Turf, Wildflower Turf, Sedum and topsoil can be heavy, and the pallet trolley pulled by the driver has small wheels, pallets cannot be delivered onto soil, grass or gravel – a tarmac or paved surface is required.

Kerbside delivery means that our products for sale in the UK is delivered as close as possible to the delivery address you provide. Our helpful drivers will do their best to place your delivery where you wish, such as a driveway, but this is at their discretion. If your delivery address is hard to find or the property is a new build, consider using what3words to pinpoint your delivery location. More information on what3words can be found in our Help Centre.

For more information on how The Pallet Network delivers our different types of products, please watch this short video.

What Issues Could Arise With Delivery?

If your product delivery cannot be made due to a reason you failed to make us aware of, the full cost of distribution and products will still be charged to you. We are proud that most of our turf deliveries arrive on time. Sometimes, circumstances beyond our control (extreme weather, road accidents, vehicle breakdowns or IT failures) can delay delivery, but we will make every effort to keep you updated in such an event.
