Sedum Green Roof Kit for Flat Roofs
If you have a sloping roof of 3 degrees, then please take a look at our Pitched Roof Kits. There you can find a range of green roof kits that are perfectly suited to your sloping roof.
Green Roofing is becoming more and more mainstream. Architects, garden designers, property developers and householders are working to improve eco-efficiency and to combat the effects of climate change. There are a plethora of benefits associated with a green or sedum roof, not least that it creates a real talking point.
Enviromat®’s green roof kit comes with everything you need to turn your standard, dull space into a delightful green roof, full of plants and flowers.
Within the kit there are several components. First of all, is a root barrier to make sure the plants cannot damage your waterproofing. Next comes a layer of specially engineered drainage mat to protect against damage to the sedum roof and building. This is because green roof sedums dislike wet conditions. This matting ensures that excess water is wicked away from the roots, keeping your flat green roof secure and healthy.
Last but by no means least is your Enviromat® sedum roof. A pre-grown green roof mat consisting of a carrier fleece for easy handling, specially formulated growing medium and of course, sedum plants. Plant coverage is at least 95%, so from the moment your Enviromat® is unrolled, your roof is fully planted.
We’re very proud of Enviromat® and hope you’ll like it as much as we do. It’s grown out of doors, in the UK, so has a low carbon footprint and is well adapted to our climate. There’s a lovely mix of plant species and it flowers merrily for at least 6 months of the year.
The patented carrier fleece contains recycled materials that hold the growing medium permanently in place. That means minimal substrate loss during the handling process, less fiddling about and less slippage once the blankets are in situ.
Sedums plants are very easy to care for. They cope well with drought conditions. So once established they will only need a very occasional watering in extremely dry weather. Feeding is important though. Please be sure to apply a specialist sedum feed every spring.
Before you begin
Your roof must have a load bearing capacity of at least 120Kg per square metre in order to install a flat green roof through Enviromat®. Please note that this includes the weight of live loading, – a person walking on the roof in order to install the flat green roof or carry out maintenance.
It is important to note that your Enviromat® green roof build-up does not double as waterproofing. Please ensure that your roof is fully waterproofed before adding your Sedum Roof Kit for Flat Roofs. After you have waterproofed your roof and made sure that it can withstand the necessary weight, you can move on to install your new Enviromat® flat green roof.
Drainage for every flat green roof should be efficient, to ensure that there is no excess moisture and water build up. If rainwater sits in puddles on your roof for any length of time, please seek professional advice before adding your green roof build-up.
Every green roof needs an edging to protect against wind uplift and dried out plants. You can purchase proprietary green roof edging, you can make it yourself or you can take advantage of an existing roof upstand. If you need advice on how to do this, please email the Turfonline Team.
