The Naturecraft Garden by Pollyana Wilkinson was The People’s Choice winner from RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, 2019.

It focuses on nature-based crafts.

Inspired by botanical crafts, The Naturecraft Garden explores how we can create beautiful objects from plants. A variety of time-honoured crafts feature in the garden. From the creation of natural dyes and herbal medicines to flower-pressing and willow-weaving. As well as their decorative value, the plants in this romantic country garden all have a purpose. That may be medicinal, edible or practical.

Designed for a nature-loving craft enthusiast, the garden features a dry-stone firepit, shepherd’s hut and eccentric, surprising objects creating a creative sanctuary.

The planting is a mix of yellow, white and pink, most plants are medicinal, used in dye or edible. These include Foeniculum vulgare, (fennel – helps digestion and used in essential oils), Daucus carota (wild carrot – edible and makes a yellow dye), Anthemis tinctoria (dyer’s chamomile – yellow dye plan) and Hypericum perforatum (St John’s wort – for antidepressant qualities and makes a pink dye).

The studio

… led by Polly Wilkinson. Polly studied Garden Design at the English Gardening School at the Chelsea Physic Garden, graduating with distinction. She went on to study Horticulture at Merrist Wood. She is passionate about design and believes in creating a collaborative, fun and informal working relationship with clients.

Prior to her career in Garden Design, she worked in marketing before realising that she craved a more creative path. She retrained in garden design and set up the studio shortly after. RHS show gardens soon followed, earning her the People’s choice award and a Silver medal in 2019, and a Silver gilt in 2018.

Pollyana Wilkinson creates gardens that are practical and elegant extensions of your home. She likes working collaboratively throughout the design process to capture the aspirations and needs for the garden and transform these into designs tailored to your own style and sensitive to the surroundings.
