Sedum Extensive Green Roof Blanket
Architects, property developers and householders are all looking for ways to improve eco-efficiency and combat the effects of climate change. The benefits associated with a green roof are huge, not only do they provide a habitat that supports the UK’s pollinators, they are really easy to maintain and look amazing. Click here to read our article about the benefits of green roofing.
Our Enviromat® sedum blanket is seeded with up to 18 different types of sedum, meaning that you get a wonderful mix of foliage to enjoy. The mats are grown outdoors in our Norfolk based nursery for 9-12 months ensuring at least 95% coverage. The plant species chosen have great disease resistance, drought tolerance and long flowering periods from early April until the end of October. When not in flower, the foliage of our sedum plants are evergreen providing interest all year round.
The matting itself is specially made using recycled products, whilst still being strong and easy to handle. We only despatch our sedum blankets when they are mature. This means there is no loss of substrate due to handling, transportation or even heavy rain after installation.
One of the benefits of using a pre-populated sedum blanket is instant coverage. Plug plants are not only time consuming to install but can take a long time to establish. If you are looking to increase biodiversity, you can also use plug plants in conjunction with our Sedum Extensive Green Roof Blanket.
Please note this product is intended for extensive green roof installation only. For a lightweight retrofit green roof solution please check out or Sedum Flat Roof Kit or Sedum Pitched Roof Kit , both contain everything you need to transform your existing roof into a true green roof. For ground installation we also have a Sedum Ground Mat Kit.
Before you begin
Your roof must have a load bearing capacity of at least 150Kg per square metre in order to install a green roof. Please note that this includes the weight of live loading, i.e. a person walking on the roof in order to install the green roof or carry out maintenance. We are unable to give specific advice on the suitability of your roof. We would advise to seek the advice of a structural engineer before undertaking an extensive green roof project.
To complete your green roof installation you will also require the following:
- Lightweight green roof substrate – the growing medium to sustain plant life.
- Drainage board – A layer to control water by allowing just the right amount to be stored to sustain the sedum plants, and allowing the excess to safely drain away.
- Suitable edging – An edging not only improves the looks of the installation but ensures adequate drainage.

The actual percentage of each species contained may vary due to environmental factors. Turfonline makes every effort to ensure its products are free from weeds and pests, however due to the natural way in which these products are grown we cannot guarantee they are 100% pest free on delivery. May contain some grasses and mosses. Enviromat may not contain all species that are listed. The variation of species present has been developed to suit a wide variety of installations and environmental conditions.
